Through The Years

Specialist Krystofer Lee Lopez, 18, of Biglerville, passed away on March 12, 2026, while serving on duty during a training incident at Letterkenny Army Depot. He was born May 2, 2007, in York, the son of Hector and Carmen (Laureano) Lopez.

Krystofer was a 2025 graduate of Biglerville High School, where he excelled at wrestling. A dedicated servant to his community and country, he was a volunteer with the Biglerville Fire Company and joined the U.S. Army during his junior year. He held the rank of Specialist and served as a 31B Military Police Officer for the LEAD Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Division, and was a Personnel Force Innovation (PFI) member assigned to the 947th Quartermaster Company.

An avid gamer and motorcycle enthusiast, Krystofer loved riding and participating in charity bike runs. He always went above and beyond to help anyone he could, but most importantly, he always put his family first. Krystofer was a true food enthusiast who loved trying new restaurants. Whether he was sitting down for a meal at Chili’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, or Mission Barbecue, he cherished sharing a table with others. However, his most frequent “culinary” stops were more local; he was such a loyal regular at both Wawa and Sheetz that he likely spent more time and money there than anywhere else. Known for having the biggest smile in the room, Krystofer always made everyone laugh with his silly jokes.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings: his twin sister, Kiyerra “Kiki” Lopez, Patrick Howe III, Myra Williams, Hector Lopez Jr., Hector Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Heidy Beth Lopez, and Arlene Lopez; 21 nieces and nephews; numerous aunts and uncles; and maternal grandparents, Angel Laureano and Sandra Dewitt. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eleuterio and Virginia Lopez.

 A group of friends got together any time they had a chance-fishing, playing poker, and even golfing (Ron Asper, Gene Shaffer, Tom Leedy, and George Guise.) They encouraged Ron to join the fire department.  So on March 23, 1972 he filled out his application sponsored by Eugene Shaffer.  He didn’t  realize what an important and exciting ride it was going to be.  May 3, 72, he was officially a member. The firehouse was located on East York street in Biglerville.  Back then there was no dining hall, so during an event, the trucks moved outside and the bays were setup with tables.  It took a group of dedicated volunteers to make the switch, Ron was there to help. He took to firefighting and eventually driving the trucks.  As a member, he filled many shoes.  Along the way he was a trustee; that meant when something broke in the department, he helped fix it.  He was also a truck foreman; meaning when the trucks broke, he fixed them.  When the members decided they needed a bigger building, he helped with the move and renovations to the new building on South Main Street.  He became Assistant Chief under Bob Baker, then later became Deputy Chief under George Guise.  He didn’t know back in 72 that 12 years later, in 1984 he would be on the first engine responding to one of the largest and longest burning fires in the county; Anderson Box Company within Biglerville boro. For the first 15 minutes he was in charge, leading the fire attack.  They were on that fire for at least 2 days.  In 1992, he became a Life Member of the department.  He always gave what he had wether it was firefighting, fixing up the department, or helping with fundraising.  You would see him at Bingo helping the Ladies Auxiliary.  I think he had to do that as his wife Donna is the Ladies Aux. president:). If you came to any sportsman’s raffle, or shrimp feed, you would see him selling tickets - front and center. He will surely be missed.

 Even before he was a member, Bob was instrumental in remodeling our dining hall as it was converted from a Tractor dealership to our new Station.  The windows in the new dining hall were blocked in and restrooms were built.  With encouragement from his sponsor Phillip Asper, he applied to The Biglerville Hose and Truck Co. #1. He submitted an application and became a member of  the department November 10, 1986.    From the beginning, he was not interested in running ambulance or fire fighting, he chose to be an associate member to help with building projects and fundraising for the department.  He always helped at fundraisers and made him self available for banquets.  One of the bigger fundraisers he enjoyed helping with is the annual Shrimp Feed that is coincidentally happening less than a month from now on March 6th. After 20 years of service, he became a Life Member in 2006. He made a lasting impression that will be missed. 

Janet Mae Wagaman, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 21, 1942, in Laurel, Maryland, Janet brought joy and kindness to everyone she met throughout her life. Residing in Bendersville, Pennsylvania, she was a cherished member of her community and an active participant in various local organizations. 

A dedicated waitress for many years, Janet served with grace and warmth across multiple establishments. Janet was a proud member of the Wenksville United Methodist Church. She also found joy in her involvement with the Bendersville Fire Auxiliary, the Biglerville Fire Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Ladies. Janet enjoyed working in her flower beds, shopping, traveling, and spending time at Sunfest in Ocean City. Janet cherished the beauty of Hawaii and relished the adventures of bus trips with friends, creating cherished memories along the way. 

She is survived by her son, Greg Wagaman; her brothers, Dave Shildt and Larry Shildt; and her beloved kitty's. Janet was preceded in death by her late husband, Kenneth Wagaman; her parents, Paul and Evelyn Shildt; and her daughter, Tammy Wagaman. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 111 S. Main St. in Bendersville. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Wenksville United Methodist Church, 2020 Wenksville Rd, Biglerville, PA 17307. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Janet will be laid to rest in Wenksville Cemetery.

 Wayne Edward Hoff, 76, of Biglerville, accelerated his 18-wheeler and followed on the path to the Kingdom of Heaven, where he now enjoys his favorite fishing spot, on September 25, 2025, surrounded by his family at Mercy House in Chambersburg.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Hoff of Biglerville; two daughters, Kathy Naylor and her husband, Greg of New Oxford and Susan Huber and her husband, Michael of York Springs; son, Robert “Bob” Hoff and his wife, Denise of York Springs; five grandchildren, Rabecca, Devin, Karley, Cody and Kaleb; one great-granddaughter, Anna Deneen; brother, Ronald Hoff and his wife, Judy of Gettysburg; sister, Beth Watts and her husband, Calvin of Dillsburg; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Hoff and Lovina (Everhart) Hoff.

Wayne graduated from Bermudian Springs High School. After high school he enlisted in the Army and served proudly for six years as a sharpshooter. Later he became a truck driver for 52 years, the last 25 years spent working for Knouse Foods. He was a member of Chapel Hill Church of God in York Springs and a life member of Biglerville Fire Company. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed fishing, watching sprint car races and NASCAR, taking care of mowing his yard, and most of all, spending time with his family and beloved dog, Aurora.

Mervin D. Weikert Jr. Biglerville PA entered God's eternal care Sunday, April 21, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side.   

Born August 5, 1933 in Two Taverns. The son of the late Mervin Sr and Katie (Breighner) Weikert. Merv was the loving husband of Helen F (Martin) Weikert with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mervin D. Weikert III, Margaret A. Fredrikis and husband Mark, Susan R. Grunden and husband Kery and grandchildren Gavin Grunden and Gwendolyn Grunden.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Louise and by brothers Ralph and Allen Weikert, and a sister Anna E. Gilbert.

Merv was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Gettysburg where he served as an usher for many years. Merv was a 1951 graduate of Gettysburg High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was an active member of the Biglerville Fire and Ambulance Company, Biglerville American Legion Post 262 and the Hanover Elks. Merv worked as a banker in Biglerville and Gettysburg for 36 years and own-operated apartments in the Gettysburg and Biglerville area.

In his pastime, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending Penn State football games and watching the Steelers. He enjoyed traveling the United States and other countries, especially fishing trips with his friends and family to Chincoteague, VA. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
 

 We are sorry to share the news of the passing of Robert (Bob) Baker. Bob passed away on February 14, 2024. He joined the Biglerville Fire Company when he was 18 years old and became a life member. He served as Chief for 23 years from 1963-1986. He also served as president of the Adams County Fire Chief Association and Adams County Volunteer Association. Much of his adult life was devoted to the Fire Company, an accomplishment for which he remained very proud until his passing.

  Larry J. Peters, Sr., age 86 of Biglerville, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Paramount Nursing and Rehab in Fayetteville. He was born Thursday, January 27, 1938 in Hanover, the son of the late G. Harold and Kathryn M. (Palmer) Peters.

Larry graduated from Biglerville High School in 1956. He was formerly employed by Knouse Foods for over 40 years. He graduated from Reisch American School of Auctioneering in 1968. Larry attended classes in real estate law and sales at Penn State in 1971. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bendersville, where he served on church council. Larry was also a licensed auctioneer for over 50 years. He collected antiques, pedal toys and other collectibles. He was a member of the South Mountain Antique Engine Assoc., Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1526 in Gettysburg, and Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville. Larry was also a life member of the Biglerville Fire Company. He served in the PA National Guard 28th Infantry Division from 1959 to 1964 where he attained the rank of staff sergeant.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary L. (Burgard) Peters. He is also survived by two sons, Larry J. Peters, Jr. and wife Kristi Lynn of Glen Rock, Lorne J. Peters of Gettysburg, sister, Nancy and husband Larry Barbour of Gettysburg, sister’s-in-law Gertrude Peters of Biglerville and Marianne Peters of Vermont and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers George and Robert Peters and sister Shirley Peters.

 Harold E. Kint, 82, of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Transitions Healthcare.

Born October 4, 1941, in Gettysburg, he was the son of Glenn and Betty (Kint) Mayer. Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Durboraw) “Pat” Kint.

Harold was a 1959 graduate of Gettysburg High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1968. He had worked at Hoak Tile Co. in Gettysburg for eight years before purchasing the Biglerville Hardware Store which he owned and operated from 1977 to 2004.

In his retirement years, Harold enjoyed driving a bus for the Upper Adams School District. His hobbies included hunting, bowling, gardening, traveling, watching NASCAR and tending to his flowers. He was a life member of the Biglerville Fire Co., American Legion Post #262 in Biglerville and the Adams County Fish and Game Association.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by two daughters, Janet Kint Davis of York Springs, and Rita Kint Harvey (Joshua) of Meshoppen, Pa.; two grandchildren, Lynnaya M. Eline (Patrick) and Robert A. Romero; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kiara and Mia Romero, and Kaitlynn and Cedric Eline; a sister, Mary Ann Baugher (Eugene) of New Oxford; two brothers, Curtis Mayer (Shirley) of Hanover, Pa., and Jim Mayer (Marlene) of Lacy, Washington; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Hey Kitty. Harold was predeceased by a great-grandson, Little Bobby.
 

 Donald G. Kuhn, 86, formerly of Gettysburg, PA passed away at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Born January 25, 1937 in Biglerville, he was the son of the late Raymond G. & Elsie (Noel) Kuhn. Donald was predeceased by his two wives, Anita (Wertz) Kuhn (1975) and Shirley (Sanders) Kuhn (2023). He was a 1954 graduate of Biglerville High School and served for 6 years with the Pennsylvania National Guard. Donald had been employed with Knouse Foods as a Data Processing Manager for many years. He was a life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Biglerville and the Biglerville Fire Co. In his retirement years Donald drove cars for Gene Latta Ford and other local car dealerships. More than anything he loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching them grow and mature, attending their events and spending time with them was the highlight of his life. He is survived by his children, Cindy Lawver (Rick) of Fayetteville, PA, Diane Ziegler Fox (Gene) of Ashburn, VA, Bud Kuhn (Deb) of Millville, DE, Rennie Black (Tim) of Gettysburg, PA and Bob Ziegler (Judy) of Myersville, MD, grandchildren, Joey Campbell (Deb), Brian Campbell (Jackie), Annie Byrd (Lance), Kacee Ramdial (Peter), Ashley Benson (JJ), Ryan Kuhn (Ariel), Brandon Black, Ali Black (Mike), Judd Ziegler (Maddie), Tucker Ziegler (Anya) and Becca Ziegler, 21 great grandchildren, sister, Carolyn Allison of Arendtsville, PA and a sister-in-law, Sue Kuhn of Biglerville. Donald was also predeceased by a brother, Raymond Kuhn, son-in-law, Jim Fox and a brother-in-law, Robert E. Allison.   
 

Terry E. Freed, age 74, of Aspers, passed away July 14, 2023, at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville. He was born November 9, 1948, in Gettysburg, to the late Lynn S. and Margaret I. (Stahl) Freed. He was widowed by his wife Betty Jane Freed, who passed away November 27, 2022.

Terry was a 1968 graduate of Biglerville High School; worked as a security guard for Cadbury Beverages; was a US Army veteran; and was a life member of the Biglerville, Arendtsville and Heidlersburg Fire Departments. He was past fire chief for Aspers Fire Department and past president of the Upper Adams Jaycees. Terry was very active in the Upper Adams Community and was a life member of the Adams County Sport Handgunners Association. He was an avid collector of dairy collectables, including bottles and trucks and also collected wheel horses. Terry was extremely family oriented and would do anything he could for his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his children, Dennis Freed and wife Celeste of Biglerville, Stephanie Welper and significant other Robert Kimple Jr. of Buchanan Valley, and Aaron Welper and wife Sue of Biglerville; grandchildren, Brittnie Bowling and husband Andrew, Julia Kint and husband Timothy Sr., and Kathleen “Katie” Welper; step-grandchildren, Ryan and Madison “Madi” Smith; great-grandchildren, Mae Ann and Rose Jane Kint and one due in October; step-great-grandchildren, Jaylen Silver and Timothy Kint Jr.; brother-in-law, Charles Lobaugh and wife Vickie of Newville; sister-in-law, Ardis Lobaugh of Gettysburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his three great-grand-puppies, Dixie, River and Chase. Terry was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Welper; granddaughter, Olivia Welper; and in-laws, Raymond and Bobette (Yost) Lobaugh.

 May 1, 2025 our brother Glenn Kuykendall earned his angel wings at the Carlisle Hospital

He was born October 28, 1943 to Roy & Maybelle (Lupp) Kuykendall in Biglerville.

He is survived by his companion JoAnn Stoffregen, 2 daughters Karen Miller & Jeff and Julie Kuykendall, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters Betty Lou Patterson, Ann Barbour & Freda Redding, 2 brothers Roy I. Kuykendall & Steven Kuykendall all of Biglerville.

He was predeceased by 4 sisters Jeanne Myers, Dorothy Hayberger Susan Kint & Christine Kint.
